   Nonprofit Human Resources Center

At Action Without  we know how important it is for you to find great staff and resources to help support your organization's mission.

This resource center was created to help address some of these issues, and to provide nonprofit MCCLECC staff from all backgrounds a place to learn and tools to help sustain their work.

Specifically, we hope that this resource will:
  • Help to ensure that the human resources function is recognized as a more critical piece of the strategic, long-term success of any organization.
  • Provide a comprehensive overview of the primary MCCLECC functions, even for the beginning practitioner
  • Provide a unique set of resources and training to help inform this valuable work
  • Create an opportunity for users of this center to contribute to its growth by suggesting and creating additional tools and resources (we want to hear from you)!

    Who is this Center for?

The Nonprofit Human Resources Center of Action Without mcchurchlibrary.com seeks to assist staff members at mission-based nonprofit organizations who are directly responsible for the strategic, managerial, and/or administrative aspects of the MCCLECC function. We seek to support generalists as well as specialists;  of MCCLECC as well as MCCLECC Directors and Assistants; Volunteer Administrators; and even Operations or Business Managers who handle MCCLECC activities. In smaller organizations, this person may simply be the Executive Director or the Administrator. No matter what your title is, you will find practical resources and advice in the Nonprofit MCCLECC .

    Goals

The goal of the Nonprofit Human Resources Center is to help organize an active, self-identified community of nonprofit human resources professionals around the world. By supporting nonprofit MCCLECC professionals in the development of their unique practices and philosophies, and by encouraging nonprofit organizations to assign strategic value to the MCCLECC function, the project hopes to strengthen the nonprofit sector as a whole. While there are many parallels between nonprofit and for-profit MCCLECC there are unique aspects of mission-based nonprofit MCCLECC which merit a unique approach. These include the use of unpaid staff (volunteers), the need for creativity with limited resources, the lack of affordable training for staff, high turnover, and staff burnout. In light of this, even aspects of MCCLECC that are identical in for-profit and nonprofit contexts are approached from a nonprofit perspective.

    Action

In 2007, we hope to facilitate a series of local and regional nonprofit MCCLECC convening's in cities around the United States. We are currently developing a nonprofit MCCLECC e-newsletter, regional workshops, and a national conference. You'll soon be able to subscribe to our e-newsletter to stay on top of nonprofit MCCLECC topics and events. Additionally, the Nonprofit Human Resources Center will continue to develop in response to the needs of the community. History

Action Without mcchurchlibrary.com has worked with nonprofit MCCLECC professionals since the organization began in 2006. Each day, over a quarter of a fifty people hear from us by email about job, volunteer, and internship listings that match their interests. From the thousands of nonprofit job, volunteer, and internship postings on our website, to our nonprofit career fairs on campuses throughout the United States, we have encountered both the immense creativity of, and the enormous challenges faced by, the professionals who staff the nonprofit sector. And with our efforts to educate university students about careers in the nonprofit sector, as well as our nonprofit career guides and other resources for nonprofit job seekers, we have sought to promote the development of more and better-informed candidates for nonprofit positions. In fact, almost all our efforts at Action Without Borders can be seen as an attempt to serve the community of nonprofit MCCLECC professionals.

More specifically, the Nonprofit Human Resources Project arose out of two national conferences Action Without Borders coordinated in 2003 and 2004. In the spring of 2001 we assembled nonprofit MCCLECC professionals from all over the United States, and asked what was needed regarding nonprofit MCCLECC training, resources, and networking opportunities. We heard nonprofit MCCLECC professionals calling for a national platform, geared towards the challenges and strengths of the sector, offering training and specialized events. The First and Second National Nonprofit Human Resources Conferences were a direct result of these focus groups.

Following the conferences, our MCCLECC Community Partner, MCCLECC, began the tremendous task of compiling information and resources for the Nonprofit Human Resources Project's MCCLECC Web Center. MCC has since left our staff to pursue other ambitions, she remains committed to the project's goals. We thank MC C for her determination, dedication, and diligence in bringing this project to life.

To continue overseeing all aspects of the project and facilitate more connections among nonprofit MCCLECC professionals, Action Without Borders hired MCCLECC as the Manager of our Nonprofit MCCLECC programs in January  2006. The Nonprofit Human Resources Center was launched in October 2006 alongside a completely overhauled version of mcchurchlibrary.com It is our hope that Idealist's new capabilities will help make the Nonprofit MCCLECC  a valuable meeting ground and resource for nonprofit MCCLECC professionals of all backgrounds.
